We were delighted to receive a call from the County Officer for England Golf back in early October asking about running a couple of events. England Golf has an ambitious strategic plan to increase participation in golf over the next few years and part of that strategy is introducing younger people to the sport. What helps in getting those people introduced to the game is through different (and, crucially in our view, shorter) formats of the game.
Apart from seeing it as an opportunity to be involved with an organisation committed to growing the game we love, it was also a great way for us to introduce Night Golf to a whole new audience. Some of the students had not played golf before, let alone played in the dark!
The events were held at Stone Golf Club on October 28th and Newcastle-under-Lyme Golf Club on October 30th. We have to say a big thank you to Gareth Shaw and Iain Lancaster of England Golf, Arron from Keele University and all the students for making the nights memorable. Thanks also to Phil from Midlands Golfer Magazine for attending and playing 6 holes with us on the Thursday.
We look forward to working with them all again. You can get more information on the work of England Golf on their website www.englandgolf.org
